Sunburns and Service

April 19, 2017
Well it’s been a couple of days.  We had divisions with the zone leaders in Sn Vicente and Los Varos which was cool, except the sun over there BURNS you so fast.  Their area is huge too.  I would not be too huge of a fan of working such a big area.  I also really love teaching people when my companion speaks fluent Spanish and I can rely on him more than I can rely on myself.  It was nice not to take the lead in teaching. Other than that, and some leadership training, the divisions were pretty uneventful.  We ate pizza which is also pretty normal for divisions. This week has been pretty quiet.  I have just decided to let my companion do his own thing.  He bought a new tablet on p-day, and has done a bunch of little disobedient things that would normally really bother me, but I am just not going to let it get to me anymore and I am not going to correct him unless it is something really big.  It’s just too much of my energy and it causes too much contention.  I have enough things to work on to change myself without arguing with him over every little thing.
We did a lot of walking this week and not a lot of teaching. Though we have found some cool people and we are working better together than we have been. I am just glad that we are not fighting. That’s a pretty big step to me.  We have been able to offer some good service too. We basically destroyed a shack out in from of an investigators house.  That was fun.  She tildes that she wanted the whole thing gone so we got a member to help us and we went to work.  It was pretty fun actually.  What else…?  We had a district class as usual, I actually kinda like giving district class.  Who knows if I actually say anything useful or if the other missionaries learn anything, but I look forward to them every week.  I also got assigned to give a talk this Sunday…Hoorah…no actually, it is a lot easier to give talks that it used to be.  I have a lot of practice teaching and explaining simple gospel subjects.  You learn a lot of useful life skills by being on a mission.

Well toady was good and just okay at the same time.  We did weekly planning without fighting, actually with compliments, so that is a miracle.  I don’t know how that happened.  Later we got pizza from Little Caesars.  That always is a good time.  I think that Mexico is an interesting blend of money and poverty.  Like a cross between Africa and the US.  It is kind of sad to see the economic gap between people in the same city.  Anyway, after lunch we walked around looking for people.  We didn’t find anyone to teach and we ended up going to Hermano R’s house to ask for people to teach.  We stayed way too long just chilling.  Well we talked about important things and we were given some inactive members to contact, but we still stayed too long. For the past few days I have been exceptionally tired.  I have been taking too many breaks sitting down and resting and not enough time pounding the streets searching for and teaching people.  I don’t even have that strong of desire to contact and that is a change for me.  Actually, I don’t want to contact at all, but I don’t know why. Its a great way to share the gospel with anyone who is willing to give us 20-30 seconds in the street.  But, for some reason I have felt like sitting down for 5-10 minutes in the shade to rest for a bit.  I’m getting lazy and I need to get to work.  I just want to do it because I WANT to do it, not because I have to have a certain number of contacts or for some other reason.  At least teaching and giving service never gets old to me.  That is reassuring.  In the evening today we had a really cool lesson with a somewhat new investigator.  We had to teach pretty fast burt he understood everything super well and at the end we asked him if he wanted to know for himself if our message was true or not. He told us that he already completely believed us. Pretty cool. People will say that sort of thing a lot, but he seemed sincere.  We are hoping to see him again on Saturday so we’ll see how that goes.  We had to run home from that appointment to make it home in time.

Today was just sort of eh.  It’s so hard to be excited to work when your companion isn’t that excited to work.  Like when your companion would be okay with going home and taking a nap during the day, it makes it harder to NOT go home and take a nap.  No, I am not napping, but I am very tired during the day especially at 2-3 in the afternoon.  It didn't help that we just walked around all morning without finding anyone.  Just walking in the sun kills you, but in the afternoon we ended up finding some people to teach so it paid off.  I don’t know what else to say. The progress of the people is slow but then again I guess you have to realize this is something completely new and kind of weird to them.  So patience is the key, with everyone, especially with the investigators. Tomorrow is a new day with new hope.
