"Running" around

Can't Wait for the air conditioning!

Wow, I still can’t figure out how people can email with only one hour a week.  It is impossible to respond to everyone. Today was pretty slow, but still good.  We only taught one lessons but she listened really attentively to us.  Her mom just passed away about a week ago so we taught her the Plan of Salvation.  I felt the Spirit and just hoped that she did too.  I think that I might have said camion instead of camino, which is truck or bus instead of road or path….flippin Spanish.  I am not entirely sure where all of our time went today. We only made 6 contacts, though two of them took a little over half an hour.  Tomorrow we have something like 3 hours in la capital from meeting the mission leader to lessons to an interview with the sister’s investigator.
Have I mentioned  how much food we get fed?  I am just so tired after comida because they feed you too much.  I haven’t eaten dinner at home in 4 weeks, except for the pizza that we ate on divisions.  I heard that I getting a package and letter (apparently from a girl???…probably my mom) tomorrow.

Yup, the letter and package were both from Mom!  Go Mom!!!
Wow, today was weird.  We spent almost all of our time after weekly planning in the church.  We ate lunch, met with the ward mission leader, interviewed one of the sister’s investigators for baptism. That was interesting. I get to play piano for the baptism, cool. But that was the cool part.  The weird part was that one of the members who often drives us to appointments, went on vacation leaving us to fend for ourselves. It is strange to NOT have him in lessons with us. The second weird thing is that we had to give one of our very best investigators to the sisters to teach because he lives in their area.  The third weird thing is that I watched a kid almost die today.  We were about to give a woman a blessing when her little kid had a terrible coughing attack.  He couldn’t stop coughing long enough to get a good breath.  The mom got super scared and a member carried/ran her kid to the hospital.  The kid also had some sort of strange skin condition.  We heard that he spent a couple of hours at the hospital and then was released.  The final weird thing was that we found out that the Flores family is moving and their son Jesus can’t be baptized because his biological father says no.

The work is really slowing down here.  We only taught one lesson today and it was with a less active member.  We have only one strong investigator and another one that is only partially interested.  Two weeks ago we had 6 good investigators. I don’t know what happened. Regardless of that and the fact that all of our plans fell through, we still had a great day.  We made about 20 contacts today and they were good ones.  I actually talked with people, taught some principles, and gave a few copies of the Book of Mormon out  We need to continue to do that for the next few days to find some new people to teach.  So even though we haven’t had much success, I still love working here.  We walked a ton today and I got another sun burn, but there is nothing that I can do about that.  I am NOT wearing a hat, that would just be too weird and I would look ridiculous.

Being sick sucks.  Being a sick missionary really sucks especially when you have to walk 8-10 mile in a day.  Lots of walking today, lots of time in the bathroom.  But is was still a good day.  The sisters had a baptism today that I played piano for.  It was super good  My first baptism that I have seen as a missionary.  Just a cool experience.  Baptisms are a little different fro the perspective of a missionary.  We had some other lessons too.  We have been teaching one guy in a really weird way.  He is from the Billy Bob (?), which is still really hard focus to visit.  He had a bunch of questions about The Book of Mormon that were really odd.  It means that he was sort of reading, but really all of his questions could be answered by actually reading the book.  Every time we go there we have to deal with this crazy guy who insists that he has visions of God and a bunch of other stuff.  I honestly don[’t understand much of what he says.
October 30, 2016    I don’t know what to say about today. We just went to church and taught lessons.  I forgot my tags so we had to get off the bus and take a taxi home to get my tags and then another taxi to the church.  So that was stupid of me.  I still feel awful.  Elder Long is one of those elders who will literally run between appointments if we are short on time.  I already hate running, with a passion, but combine that with church clothes and diarrhea, and that feelings that I have about how much I hate running can’t be quantified. We taught a new investigator today.  He is super stuck on his belief that there is no other scripture other than the Bible.
